AEC Members Participate in Columbia Union Mission Trip to Ghana
Several representatives from Allegheny East Conference recently participated in a mission trip with the Columbia Union in Cape Coast Ghana where over 100 people were baptized. The 11-day Bible seminar series entitled, “Future Foretold,” was held at the Cape Coast Central Church in Cape Coast, Ghana and included presentations on mental health, communication, and marriage, women’s ministries training, educators training, children’s story time, as well as a CU praise team. Celeste Ryan Blyden, CU executive secretary of the Columbia Union served as the main speaker for the evangelistic series, with support and planning from Emmanuel Asiedu, CU treasurer.
The CU ministry team consisted of pastors, directors, and local leaders and professionals who worked in collaboration with local leaders and Bible Workers. Representatives from Allegheny East included:
Dr. Cheryl Chavers (Calvary, Newport News, VA)- shared presentations on trauma, domestic violence, and marriage nuggets, as well as facilitator for Youth Retreat segment, and soloist. She also shared her testimony.
Micah Chavers (Calvary, Newport News, VA) - served as musician for CU praise team and facilitator for leadership training for young leaders, and shared marriage nuggets.
Dione Finney (Columbia Community Church, Columbia, MD) who presented on self-care, and conducted nightly one-on-one counseling, gave nuggets on self-care, depression and the elderly, and participated on CU praise team.
Andre Hewitt, MA, LPC (Germantown Church, Philadelphia), who shared presentations on domestic violence, men’s health, marriage nuggets, visited local jail, and conducted nightly one-on-one counseling.
LaTasha Hewitt (AEC Communication Director) who shared presentations on developing a communication strategy and social media, interview facilitator, and praise team member
Dr. Renee Humphreys (AEC Associate Superintendent) - shared a presentation on education, conducted nightly “Story time with Aunt Renee,” education training for local educators.
The team also had an opportunity to visit the historic Elmina Slave Castle in Elmina, Ghana.
