AEC Youth Congress Builds a Strong FOUNDATION

This past weekend, over 680 young people and chaperones gathered for AEC Youth Congress 2024, resulting in 40 making decisions for baptism. Held January 24th-26th at the Roland M. Powell Convention Center, the gathering was a powerful testament to the impact of building solid spiritual Foundations—Faith, Fulfillment, and Fortitude (theme).

On Friday evening, attendees enjoyed praise and worship, music from recording artist Samantha Howard, and a vesper given by Dr. Vandeon Griffin, the Associate Youth and Young Adult Director of the North American Division. Many young people responded to the appeal and were covered in prayer by AEC President, Dr. Trevor Kinlock.

On Sabbath, attendees enjoyed a worship experience featuring more music from Samantha Howard, as well as a message from Dr. Laurent Grovesner (Alpha Church, Austin, Texas). Following his appeal, 40 individuals responded to the call to be baptized. Seven of those individuals were baptized at a nearby hotel’s indoor pool. The remaining will make arrangements to be baptized at their local churches.

Following service, attendees attended sessions on financial wellness, leadership, biblical womanhood/manhood, and spiritual growth. “We equipped our youth with tools to not only strengthen their faith but also navigate life with purpose and confidence,” said AEC Youth Director Dr. Ramone Griffith.

Later that evening, the afternoon included a live podcast followed by a social that included a performance from AEC’s drum corps, karaoke, a talent show, and various other games and activities.

On Sunday, the congress wrapped up with a sneaker ball brunch, featuring food, activities, and a sneaker competition.

The impact of the conference was designed to reach far beyond one weekend. “Our goal was to inspire, empower, and challenge them to stand firm in their faith, and by God’s grace, we accomplished that and more. The hope is that the seeds planted will continue to grow, shaping future leaders who are rooted in Christ as we continue building, brick by brick,” said Griffith

The feedback received from one parent is evidence that this was indeed accomplished.

“(My child) had the best time! She enjoyed the seminars, the worship, the meals, and the social! She said she learned so much and took so many notes. She had a blast. She can’t wait till the next one! It’s always a blessing to see my child excited about Jesus! She definitely came home wanting to seek Him more. She asked for a new Bible so she can study, and picked one out on Amazon last night. It was delivered this morning.”
