First Church Hosts Community Summer Events

First Church hosted two exciting summer community events in August.  First, Movie Night was the perfect event for a wonderful summer evening on Saturday, August 12th. The movie screen and chairs were set up right outside the church building where eager church family and neighbors waited for the heartwarming movie “Finding Nemo” to begin.  No excuses; convenient for anyone to view, some neighbors watched the movie from their porches.  As seen on faces of many viewers, Clown fish “Nemo” was a suitable attention getter for its diverse audience.

“It was a blessing and a joy to see the community and church family come out to support this event.  Everyone that took part had a wonderful experience. The sponsors were kind, the crowd was friendly, snacks were great, and the movie was just fantastic! May God Be Praised,” said Elder Leslie Clark, Community Service Leader.

Second, “Keep Your Health on Track” Community Health Fair was held two weeks later, on August 27th.  Coordinated by the Health and Temperance Team; the church family, ministries, and invited vendors worked together as a labor of love to ensure a successful event.  Vending booths featuring health screenings, delicious healthy cooking demo with tasting, resourceful information on cancer prevention, substance abuse, dental and eye care, stress management, suicide prevention, physical activity such as exhilarating exercises and Zumba, fiscal management, Pathfinder display to introduce and register children, and a kids’ corner with fun activities and surprises.  There were prizes for adults also. Our church family committed themselves to prayer months before both events and God Blessed!

“This event was to encourage and educate our community and church members to take charge of their health.  We came to give, but in giving we received so much more than we gave. It was a wonderful experience hearing the laughter and seeing the beautiful smiles upon faces. We hope to see you there next year as you are Keeping Your Health on Track” said Jeanette Umstead, Health and Temperance Leader.
